Viewer Application for Mapserver-generated Flash Map Layers Glenn Brauen Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre Carleton University July 16, 2004 This package contains a Flash application for viewing mapserver-generated Flash map layers. It was developed as part of my attempt to understand the mapserver implementation of Flash (SWF) output, especially vector output layers with attributes associated with the features contained in some of the layers. The package includes a small data set (Shapefiles) that I used when developing the prototype. There are many issues I have ignored that would need to be addressed in the development of a robust viewer application (e.g., features such zoom and pan, general cartographic display practices such as legends and scale bars). Instead, I chose to keep this very simple to demonstrate how to load a few map layers and access the ActionScript-encoded attributes. Getting Started: Load the file fmv.html into your browser. It contains instructions on using this demo and references to information describing the mapserver implementation of SWF map layers. Comments and questions are welcome.
